How is New Options Alkaline Mineral Softener different from other hair relaxers?New Options Alkaline Mineral Hair Softener contains no caustic or harsh chemicals, and no formaldehyde like Brazilian Blowout and Keratin hair treatments.  Most hair relaxers contain sodium hydroxide (Lye), calcium hydroxide (“no lye”), or lithium hydroxide. These chemicals break the bonds in your hair and erode your cuticle. To see this, leave a piece of your hair in any sodium hydroxide relaxer for 48 hours. (it will be completely dissolved)back to top

How is New Options different from Rio and Copa?

Both Rio and Copa were on the acid side of the PH meter. Acidic formulas have been shown to cause tightly curled hair to become dry and hard. Alkaline formulas soften our hair type.

Absolutely! New Options Alkaline Mineral Softener is compatible with hair coloring products except those with metallic salts, peroxide or heavy coating agents such as Henna or Bigen.

Will the new Options make my hair straight?

Relaxing your hair all the way to straight takes away the resiliency and body. New Options Alkaline Mineral Softener is thermogenic (Heat Activated). It will get silky straight from blow-drying, wrapping, pressing or wet setting. Application time of 15-20 minutes will relax your curl about 35%. Application time of 20-25 minutes will relax the natural curl about 60%. Application time of 30 to 45 minutes will relax natural curl about 80%. ( We say “about” because it depends on how tight your natural curl is to begin with)

Only if your hair type was virgin before you applied New Options Alkaline Mineral Softener. Under this circumstance a client could apply our New Options Moisture Retainer as a leave in conditioner for a curly look.

New Options Alkaline Mineral Softener is permanent.

New Options Alkaline Mineral Softener will not damage your hair, only soften it, so it will not be a problem if you slightly overlap.

No, it not necessary to smooth unless you want to get straighter hair. We do not recommend combing because you could irritate the scalp and also promote hair breakage.
